LCANJ Principles and Objectives

  1. To adopt and uphold democratic principles for good governance, effective and efficient management, and sound policy-making and program implementation;
  2. To foster friendship and cooperation, and encourage dialogue and activities promotive of peace, reconciliation, unity and democracy at home and abroad;
  3. To promote aspects of Liberian culture, history and traditions that contribute to social progress;
  4. To develop ways and means for resource mobilization for the social and economic development of the Liberian community in North Jersey; and,
  5. To undertake activities of maximum benefit to local liberians and less fortunate Liberians at home.

Summary of LCANJ Community Development Agenda (2008 - 2009)

  1. Providing membership benefits and services, particularly immigration assistance;
  2. Providing recreational services for community residents;
  3. Implementing children and youth activities, and senior citizens program;
  4. Developing a multi-purpose Community Center;
  5. Developing social and economic opportunities for members, including education, training and employment; and
  6. Supporting charitable projects in Liberia.

LCANJ Background

  • Conceived in 1971, established in 1974 and incorporated in 1977 as a nonprofit corporation.
  • Operates under its Constitution & Bylaws and the New Jersey Nonprofit Corporation Law.
  • Major organs: General Assembly, Representative Council, and the Administration.
  • Founding member-organization of the Union of Liberian Associations in the Americas (umbrella group of Liberians and their organizations in the Americas).
